Welcome to UT Martin, Skyhawks!
My name is Dawson Gremmels, and I am proud to serve as the 71st General Assembly President of the Student Government Association (SGA).
I am more than excited to welcome you to our fantastic community and your home away from home! UTM has given me some of the most memorable experiences and best of friends, and I would not change my decision to come here a day in my life. Every single one of you is about to embark on one of the most exciting, nerve-racking, and eventful journeys of your lives, and I hope you all capitalize on the moments ahead and make memories to come.
You all have already taken one of the biggest and most difficult steps coming to college. Now, it’s time to make the most of it. College is more than a time to learn what career field you decide to pursue. It is a time to discover who you are and what kind of path you want to pave for yourself, and the best way to do that is to find your passion. Luckily for you, UTM has over 150 registered student organizations to see where you belong, and if you wish to take the extra step, create your own organization! UTM is truly limitless to your potential.
One of the best ways to get involved at UTM is to become a part of the Student Government Association. SGA exists for the entire student body to ensure that every student’s voice can be heard by members of the administration. The best way for you to get involved in SGA this year is through Freshman Council.
Freshman Council exists as a way for our newest students to voice their opinions, needs, and concerns while also teaching the operations of the Student Government Association.
I joined SGA when I was selected as a member of Freshman Council in 2019. Through this experience, I had the opportunity to learn more about UTM and how to create and operate events on-campus.
To begin your application for Freshman Council, please visit www.utm.edu/departments/sga. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26. Interviews will be conducted the following week, and selections will be made shortly thereafter.
You are always welcome to visit the SGA Office located inside the Student Life Office (UC 245), attend SGA Senate meetings every other Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the Robert Smith Legislative Chambers (UC 111), submit a suggestion through our suggestion box on Runway, or email me, Dawson, at dawbgrem@ut.utm.edu.
I am thrilled that you are a part of the UTM community, and I look forward to seeing all of you SOAR at UTM!
Dawson Gremmels, President
Student Government Association
