Kayla's Morning Kickstart

Next Phase of Impeachment

The House Judiciary Committee will kick off the first round of hearings today. CNN reports that participants in these hearings will discuss details of the impeachment case in terms of Constitutional and federal laws. Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler is over the process, and he's responsible for deciding what the articles of impeachment will include and whether or not to include things outside of the Ukraine situation, like information from the Russia investigation. The report sent to the Judiciary Committee is a 300-page document that says the President abused his power.

NATO

The two-day 70th annual NATO summit wraps up today. Leaders are expected to discuss the alliance and stability in the Euro-Atlantic area. President Trump's strained relationships with other world leaders makes the process difficult.

2020 Campaign

As the primary elections draw closer, the field of candidates continues to shrink. Senator Kamala Harris from California ended her campaign Tuesday because of a lack of money and unmoving poll numbers. She was once a frontrunner for the Democratic nomination, and now only six Democrats have raised enough money to have a spot on December's debate stage. Those six are Former Vice President Joe Biden, Senators Elizabeth Warren, Amy Klobuchar and Bernie Sanders, Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Tom Steyer. Senator Cory Booker is struggling to earn enough money to make it to the stage. Gov. Deval Patrick is willing to accept money to get on the stage. Michael Bloomberg, a billionaire, has outspent every other candidate on television ads.
