Hong Kong voting

Hong Kong citizens showed up yesterday to vote for hundreds of district councilor seats. The councils don't have lawmaking power, but they manage finances and deal with neighborhood issues. In the last elections, voter turnout was at 47%. Yesterday, it was at 71%.


Department of Justice's new plan

The U.S. Department of Justice has unveiled a new plan to address the number of murdered and missing Native Americans. Native American women face high rates of violence, including sexual and domestic abuse, and murder. The department plans to invest $1.5 million to hire coordinators in offices to establish protocols for authorities to handle these cases.


Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade balloons at risk

Weather could stop the iconic balloons from appearing in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Officials in New York say windy conditions are expected next week. City Rules say the balloons cannot fly in sustains winds that exceed 23 miles per hours. Wind gusts of over 34 miles mer hour would also sideline the balloons. Right now, the forecast for sustained winds don't exceed regulations, but the gusts do. Officials will monitor wind conditions and decide whether or not to fly the balloons.
