The University of Tennessee at Martin announced Montez Robinson will step in as the interim head basketball this season.
Robinson was brought in by Anthony Stewart as an assistant earlier this year and has spent the previous five years as the head basketball coach at Alcorn State University.
Robinson had success in conference play with Alcorn compiling a 50-40 record, while going 69-86 overall during his tenure.
Athletic director, Kurt McGuffin, is confident in what Robinson brings to the table.
"He has called the shots before and led his team, while having success with Alcorn State, so it is probably a no-brainer for this situation," McGuffin said.
UT Martin will honor the life and legacy of former head coach Anthony Stewart with a memorial service on Sunday at 3 p.m.
The event will be held at the Tom and Kathleen Elam Center and will be open to the public with safety guidelines in place.
