University of Tennessee at Martin students' lives became a lot more unpredictable on March 11, 2020.
University leaders sent students home for a long weekend as they finalized a learning plan amidst a pandemic. The first announcement said students would be off-campus until at least April 6; students finished the Spring 2020 semester online.
In the last 12 months, Weakley and Obion counties have seen over 3,000 and 4,000 cases respectively.
Thursday, March 11, 2021, Weakley County has 22 active cases. Obion County has 10. Three UT Martin students and faculty/staff members currently have Covid.
The Daily Mail contributed other anniversaries. On March 11, the World Health Organization first called COVID-19 a pandemic. The NBA announced they'd suspended their season. Finally, Tom Hanks and his wife announced they'd tested positive for the much-discussed virus.
President Joe Biden will make his first prime-time address Thursday evening to acknowledge this anniversary and to encourage Americans to stay strong.
