As they have done so often throughout this magical season, the UT Martin Skyhawks found a way to win in a thrilling, come-from-behind victory against interconference rival Austin Peay. After trailing 0-16 in the first half, the Skyhawks found their rhythm and scored 17 unanswered points in the second half, including the game-winning field goal. UT Martin leads the Ohio Valley with a 3-0 conference record. The win moves the Skyhawks to No. 11 in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll and No. 15 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 poll.
After throwing two pick-sixes in the first half, Skyhawks quarterback Keon Howard put the offense on his back and led his team to victory. Facing off against Austin Peay's vicious pass rush, Howard only managed 137 yards through the air but threw the game-tying touchdown pass to running back Peyton Logan at the end of the fourth quarter.
Skyhawks standout Eyabi Anoma earned FCS National Defensive Player of the Week honors after securing eight total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and blocked a potential game-winning field goal from the Governors.
Austin Peay defensive back Koby Perry shined with 16 total tackles and returned an interception for a touchdown in the first quarter. Albeit a losing effort, Koby Perry was named OVC Defensive Player of the week. Running back Brian Sneed led the Governors' offense on the ground with 73 rushing yards. Quarterback Sheldon Layman struggled to throw the football against the fierce Skyhawks defense, only managing 104 passing yards.
Next Saturday, the Skyhawks look to extend their winning streak to eight against interconference rival Tennessee State University. Under new head coach Eddie George, the Tigers have posted a 5-3 record and are currently on a four-game winning streak. TSU quarterback Geremy Hickbottom and Skyhawks quarterback Keon Howard are ranked second and third in passing yards in the Ohio Valley Conference, respectively
Kickoff will take place on November 6 at 2:00 p.m.
